TOSI is a multi-skilled Global organization based in 13 locations in 7 countries who provide the expert technical support for AstraZeneca commercial small molecule drug products, product adaptability, manufacturing technology strategy and Packaging Development & Technology.
Underpinning the excellent technical support that drives robust product supply are technical processes & strategies around knowledge management, manufacturability, technical validation approaches, problem solving in alignment with the delivery of the technical inputs needed for fulfilling the Global Product Supply Strategy. We work closely with many technical functions across Operations providing the ability to drive science and build capability within our organisation and our ways of working.

Main duties and responsibilities
In this role, you will provide expert technical support in the area of Analytical and Material Sciences spanning from product formulation, manufacture, and testing and you will ensure robustness of AZ commercial products and performance of the related manufacturing processes and analytical methods.
Your responsibilities will include:
Developing and overseeing the strategy and capability build in the areas of Analytical and Material Characterization, to support the supply network.
Craft the strategy for demonstrating raw materials characterization and CMA (critical material attributes) to enable emerging new manufacturing platforms (e.g., CDC with advanced process control and improved control strategies), process intelligence and manufacturing technology strategies, inclusive of modelling and simulation.
Providing commercial analytical expertise to ensure suitable and standardized processes for characterisation (e.g. particle identification , counterfeit products testing) to drive improvements and/or investigations across inhalation, parenteral and oral solid dosage forms.
Supporting regulatory strategies in the area of Analytical and material science, with regulatory interactions to ensure success.
Supporting revenue protection and revenue acceleration to AstraZeneca’s commercial portfolio by providing cross-product leadership to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in Analytical and material characterization and by identifying the optimal strategies to improve multi-site/multi-product productivity and adaptability.
Maintaining technical knowledge in area of subject matter expertise including changes in the regulatory expectations and up to date advances in new technologies to aid in the improvement of raw material, intermediates, and drug product investigational analytical methods
Leading, mentoring and coaching other scientific leaders within area of expertise building future analytical capability in the organization aligned with the needs of our strategic workforce plan.
Being active in internal and external scientific communities and networks pertaining to area of expertise.
All these activities will have a significant impact on the overall success of Global Operations, as well as, ensuring the commercial viability of current products. These activities will help to ensure availability of all AstraZeneca products to the commercial organisation. The role, therefore, has a significant impact on both financial and reputational aspects of the business.
Essential Requirements
Degree or PhD level or considerable experience post degree in an appropriate subject area such as Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Sciences or similar subject area.
Excellent communication and leadership with demonstration of being able to work across different functions and in an intercultural environment
Professional credibility within the business and industry
Desirable Requirements
Excellent understanding of the overall drug product development and commercialization process from development, launch and through life cycle management
Previous experience and training in Lean and six sigma, problem solving tools
