AdressFortum, Teollisuuden Voima, Vattenfall and Uniper will start a third joint Trainee Program for future nuclear sector professionals. Nordic Nuclear Trainee Program (NNTP) is a great opportunity to kick start your career in nuclear, learn about the nuclear sector, Nordic operators and their collaboration.
The Trainee Program starts in September 2024 and ends in December 2025.
About the program
Trainee program gives participants an understanding about the nuclear industry while building knowledge about stakeholders, collaboration and authorities. In the end, the program will prepare you with skills and knowledge relevant for different types of career paths within nuclear.
As a trainee you will learn from other NNTP participants and have a chance to network with industry professionals. You will also get to know the companies involved in the program better through rotation periods. Site visits will be a unique opportunity to learn about different power plants.
Part of the trainee's role is to be an ambassador for NNTP. In practice this means that you will share your experiences during the Trainee Program through social media and company channels. The communications department will support you in this task.
Outside the program hours, you will work in Fortum's nuclear business in a specific position. You will be employed by Fortum for the 15-month program period or to a permanent role depending on the position. The position will be defined by your background and interest and according to specific business needs. The positions available belong to the following expertise areas: automation and electrical engineering, project planning and process simulation.
The program in a nutshell:
- 15-month program period, approximately 600 hours dedicated for the program
- Eight face-to-face modules (3 days each), site visits and four virtual seminars
- Two rotations (2-4 weeks)
- Project assignment
- Mentoring from industry experts
- Visit to WANO Paris Centre (World Association of Nuclear Operators)
- Networking with nuclear professionals and other trainees

What we are looking for
We are looking for someone with a BSc or MSc degree in engineering (for example energy technology, physics, automation or electrical engineering or similar) . You are a recent graduate or at the end of your studies, for example about to complete your thesis. The nuclear industry is still rather new but interesting for you.
The program language is English, so good oral and written English skills are required for participating in the program. Please note, that for positions in Loviisa good oral and written Finnish skills are required.
You have a passion or a strong interest for the nuclear industry and you are eager to learn and grow to be a nuclear professional. We hope that you are willing to travel as the program involves training in various locations in Finland and Sweden. You are able to work both independently and in groups as well as share your insights in a clear manner with others.
