Work tasks

The work duties mainly involve establishing research in Computer Science in close collaboration with companies. This includes development and implementation of training modules for lifelong learning in the subject area. We are looking for a researcher and teacher who can be responsible for driving the development of both academic and applied research in Computer Science with specialization in classical methods of image analysis, photogrammetry, visualization, statistical data analysis, machine learning, and other methods in the field of artificial intelligence. The position is linked to the university's strategic research area Intelligent Industry yet, it is placed in the research environment Geospatial Information Science in collaboration with Electrical Engineering. The thematic direction of the research is focused on issues relating to spatially, to some degree geographically, data with applications in business and industry. The position is during the first two years funded through a strategic project with internal and external research grants. The focus of this project is on research, collaborative activities towards companies and the surrounding community, as well as internationalization of research in the subject. We are looking for a driven Senior Lecturer who, in addition to the scientific competence in the specialized area, has a good ability to communicate and collaborate with parties outside academia and to establish research networks both nationally and internationally.

Examples of tasks during the initial project phase include:

In research:

• Literature studies and needs analysis through interviews with collaborating companies.
• Planning and implementation of workshops with companies and researchers.
• Development of research plans for feasibility studies or case studies.
• Implementation of (pre)studies and publication.
• Development of research plans and applications for in-depth studies and co-research projects.

In education and internationalization:

• Development of learning modules adapted to the target group in, e.g., lifelong learning.
• Supervision and, where appropriate, examination of degree projects and doctoral students.
• Implementation of teaching activities adapted to target groups.
• Participation in international conferences/workshops for EU cooperation within the framework of e.g. EU Green.
• Development of contacts and collaborations within EU research networks.
  

It is expected that the initial period of employment during the project period will result in the establishment of research projects in collaboration with companies and external funding so that the position can continue to have a research-oriented character. Alternatively, the position is planned to continue through mainly educational duties with limited time for research or administrative tasks.

The workplace is the University of Gävle and the teacher is expected to carry out most of his or her work there.

Qualifications

For the position, the applicant must have:

• A PhD in Computer Science or another subject that the employer considers equivalent.
• Completed training in teaching and learning in higher education equivalent to at least 10 weeks of full-time studies or acquired equivalent knowledge in some other way.
• Good knowledge of the specialization in classical methods of image analysis, photogrammetry, visualization, statistical data analysis, machine learning e.g. for classification and recognition, generative AI and natural language models.
• Research expertise demonstrated through publication in relevant national and international journals and conferences.
• Very good oral and written communication skills in English.
• Demonstrated pedagogical skills and experience from own pedagogical activities in planning, teaching, examination, as well as from evaluation and development in education.

The successful candidate demonstrates research expertise with the ability to independently analyze complex context and to identify the need for new knowledge both within the scientific community and preferably in collaboration with stakeholders outside academia. We want the teacher to have good skills to plan research activities independently and to take responsibility for running processes with commitment to timeframes. The applicant demonstrates a good ability to communicate research ideas in a convincing manner to interested partners and/or research funders. Good ability to communicate in Swedish in both speech and writing is meriting.
