We are now looking for an expert in feedback control with a passion to see advanced theory being used to solve real industrial problems. Particularly, someone with a passion for autonomous Process Control systems, interested in integrating machine learning algorithms, AI based solution and classical Advanced Process Control theories. You should have the ability to formulate and bring an idea all the way to an industrial prototype implementation and be able to support ABB’s Divisions in their product development and customer contacts. You will work in a department which is dedicated to creating innovative automation solutions to support our company and our customers. The research team focus is on Industrial Networks and Control and is part of the Automation Technologies department.

Your responsibilities

  • Utilizing your expertise in control-related areas, you will initiate, lead, and participate in challenging research projects, collaborating with international ABB business units, customers, and renowned academic institutes.
  • Develop project ideas and feasibility studies based on the latest inputs from customers, universities, technology and market trends, and ABB business.
  • Create prototypes of developed concepts that have a real impact on the business.
  • Share your findings through scientific publications, patent applications, and technical reports.
  • Build a network within the company and actively share your knowledge and expertise.
  • Follow best practices in software development to ensure high-quality deliverables.
  • Work in a cross-disciplinary and international team, using Agile development methodology that requires active participation in all team activities.
  • Share your experience and skills with other team members.

Your background

  • PhD in automatic control or a related field, or master’s degree with several years of work experience.
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge in multivariable control, modeling, and simulation of dynamical systems. Knowledge in optimization, data sciences and machine learning is also appreciated.
  • Proven track record in top scientific conferences and journals.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink, Modelica, Python.
  • Skills to design and implement algorithms in modern edge computing solutions are also appreciated.
  • Eagerness to learn and a willingness to explore new topics in domains such as autonomous systems and artificial intelligence.
