Description
In this role, you will be part of Technology and Solutions Development for HVDC applications, within Hitachi Energy, in Ludvika. The HVDC technology has been on the market for the past 60 years and is used, among other things, to transmit power over long distances with minimal losses, using overhead lines, underground and submarine cable systems.
The Valve Development Department is a part Technology and Solutions Development office in Ludvika, and it is responsible for the development of new HVDC and SVC converter valves. HVDC converter valves are used to convert AC to DC, and vice versa, and are essential for HVDC power transmissions. SVC converter valves are used in SVC systems, in order to support and stabilize AC systems. The Valve Development Department is focusing mainly on electrical and Mechanical Design and Development activities and works in close collaboration with the global HVDC organization. Please find out more about our world leading technology at https://www.hitachienergy.com/offering/product-and-system/hvdc
You are welcome to join our energetic team with mix of experienced and young engineers and colleagues from diverse nationalities around the world. We work closely with design teams and collaborate with engineering and research team in Sweden and abroad.
Your Responsibilities
  • Work in new product development projects focusing on Valve Mechanical Design tasks involving multi-disciplinary areas - for example heat transfer, electrical insulation, strength of materials and manufacturing technologies.
  • Develop new cooling technologies and improve existing ones to enhance the performance of HVDC converter Valves and its cooling system.
  • Conduct research, testing, and validation of cooling systems using advanced modelling, simulation, and analysis tools
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical, mechanical, and software engineers, to integrate cooling systems into designs.
  • Evaluate and select materials, components, and suppliers for cooling systems based on technical requirements, cost, and reliability.
  • Perform DFMEA to prevent unnecessary product development issues in future
  • Perform Mechanical Design for converter valve components including design calculations, preparation of design specifications and technical documents
  • Preparation of 3D CAD Models, drawings and BOM
  • Participate in various product verification tests from early prototype testing to final verification of converter valve design

Your Background
  • Master's degree in mechanical engineering or engineering physics.
  • Genuinely curious in physics and new technologies that can be applied in a future product.
  • Open for multi-disciplinary assignments in mechanical and electrical fields.
  • Experience with new product development, flow simulations, thermal cycle calculations, or control of cooling systems will be an advantage.
  • Proficiency in 3D-CAD modeling, ideally in NX environment is preferred.
  • Understanding of mechanical core competences, material selection, manufacturing
  • methods, GD&T, and basic understanding of electrical technology.
  • Theoretical understanding in fluid mechanics and thermodynamics are must. Experience in CFD simulations or thermal cycle calculation will be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of fieldbus technology, component/instrument, deionizing chemistry, and cooling system redundancy philosophy will be an added advantage.
  • Fluency in English -written and spoken. Proficiency in Swedish will be an advantage.
  • Experience in exchange study or any other international opportunity will be an advantage.
