Material Engineer/Senior Material Engineer

We are looking for a dedicated/experienced/driven Material Engineer and Senior Material Engineer to join us in our mission to contribute to a greener future. The role is a part of our excellent/bold/passionate Material team based in Västerås. By joining us, you will be a key player in establishing Northvolt battery cell and contribute to building one of the first large scale European battery factories.
About the team

• Aim to develop the best materials for Customer project
• There are 6 different parts in my team such as Cathode Active Material, Anode Active Material, Binder/Conductive, Electrolyte, Separator/Foil, Validation/Innovation
• The team comprises more than 30 engineers including managers from various nationalities more than 8 countries

We are collaborate with external suppliers for material development.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Collaborate with the Cell design team to discuss the target of Materials to meet the cosutomer's demend
• Work with external suppliers to develop optimal materials and generate innovative ideas
• Coordinate with other departments to arrange Design of Experiments (DOE) and secure sufficient sample quantities
• Analysis basic properties of each material (CoA items, Pysical and Chemical properties)
• Investigate slurry properties of Cathode Active Material (CAM) and Anode Active Material (AAM).
• Validate materials using Coin cell & Pouch cell testing
• Generate ideas and file patents for each material

Education/Experience

• A degree in BS/MSc or Ph.D. in chemistry, Material Engineering, chemical engineering, or related discipline is a must
• 3+ years working experience in Li-ion battery/electrolyte development is a must
• Experiences in Active Material evaluation
• Curious, technically educated, and with a strong business background
• Must have worked in multi-cultural environment
