Microsoft Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I) is the team behind the cloud. CO+I is responsible for delivering over 200 Microsoft web portals, Live and Online Services around the world including infrastructure, security and compliance, operations, globalization, and manageability. Our focus is on smart growth, high efficiency, and delivering trusted experience to customers and partners worldwide.
Within CO+I, the Datacenter Construction team is looking to fill a critical and high-profile role of the Datacenter Construction Lead. The Datacenter Construction team is responsible for delivering datacenter capacity for Microsoft's cloud business. We have a portfolio of complex, multi-disciplinary, multi-million, multi-year Datacenter Construction and lease projects. As a member of the Leadership team, you will lead the construction management of datacenters for both build and leased sites in the EMEA region.
The role requires a smart, motivated professional to lead the EMEA construction team and work with various internal departments, including Data Center Engineering, Procurement and Finance to support all aspects of project cost management and financial forecasting for our growing data center infrastructure construction team in EMEA.

This position will be based in Europe - preferably in Western Europe. This role will report to MSFT's Global Construction Leader and will be relying on independent regionalization.
Responsibilities:
The Senior Construction Leader will assist with physical infrastructure construction and remediation activities in existing core and regional data centers. This individual should have experience in data center/critical facility design and construction projects in a greenfield environment and new construction in existing MSFT Datacenter campuses. Other responsibilities include:
  • Develops and manages simple construction project plans, budgets and schedules, work with end users, line of business and senior management to understand complex problems and focus on bringing issues to resolution, escalating as necessary to meet project demands
  • Assists the Senior Lead Construction Managers and Lead Construction Managers in the implementation of complex construction projects
  • Develops and assists with contracts to architects, engineers, general contractors, commissioning agents and other external vendors and internal partners
  • Provides construction project assistance including coordinating internal and external consultants and vendors to assure compliance with construction project specifications, budgets and schedules and facility risk profile
  • Maintains effective communication with internal customers, construction project teams and management
  • Ability to interact with senior management to create and implement complex communication plans that deliver construction project goals, plans and execution and progress reports and routinely communicating updates to management and stakeholders
  • Ensures compliance with company policies and procedures as well as government and regulatory requirements
  • Promotes a safe, secure, and ethical business environment for all employees and customers
  • Familiarity of data center construction, applicable laws and regulations, industry benchmarking, emerging issues, internal guidelines and policies, services, and business processes
  • Develop processes as the need arise
  • Define data center system-level architecture, specify/document performance and equipment requirements, create/communicate conceptual designs, and create/maintain project documentation.

Qualifications:
Required Experience and Skills
  • Experience directly related to the construction of data centers/critical infrastructure or large-scale mechanical and electrical plants
  • Experience with large scale technical operations, mission-critical mechanical/electrical infrastructure, or large-scale compute farms
  • Knowledge of building codes, regulations, and international building code.
  • Experience dealing with administering Design Bid Build and Design and Build projects.
  • Experience in controls and commissioning of large-scale projects.
  • Certifications such as Professional Engineer (PE), LEED, and/or Certified Construction Manager (CCM).
  • Possess clear written and verbal communication skills and ability to use data to justify conclusions
  • Degree or higher in Construction or Architecture or Engineering
  • Knowledge and understanding of mission critical infrastructure systems including BMS or EMS systems
  • SAP application exposure
  • Strong customer relationship management skills, organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills.
  • Outstanding problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Advanced Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint) skills
  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced deadline driven environment
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and across all organizational levels, where flexibility, collaboration, and adaptability are important
  • Budget management experience
  • Ability to interact with integrity and a high level of professionalism with all levels of team members and management
  • Experience in Construction Management, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
