Description of the workplace
The department has an extensive postgraduate program and hosts the National Graduate School in Historical Studies. The Department of History has a large group of active researchers, with a chronological emphasis on early modern and modern history, read more https://www.hist.lu.se/en/research/ ). The department's LUCK is a leading international forum for the new field of history of knowledge. The centre brings together a number of research projects and has a seminar series, an international visiting researcher program, a summer school and a digital platform (see https://newhistoryofknowledge.com ).

Work duties and areas of responsibility
We are looking for 2 Researchers inhistory of knowledge, each 75 %. You will be part of LUCK and work within the project "The Europeanization of the Universities: Transforming Knowledge Institutions from within, c. 1985-2010" under the direction of Professor Johan Östling. Link:

You are expected to:
  • Conduct research of high international quality in an individual sub-project designed within the framework of the project "The Europeanization of the Universities" (the final design of the sub-project will be done in consultation with the research leader)
  • To be an active part of the larger project and contribute to a joint comparative analysis of the Europeanisation of the universities and the emergence of the so-called knowledge society in the period in question.
  • To actively contribute to the activities of LUCK in general. In order to meet these expectations, and since you will be working closely with the research director and other members of LUCK, it is a requirement that you are collaborative and have a high level of attendance in Lund.

Travel to archives and conferences abroad is part of the position. The same applies to joint work with and administration of the research group's publications, workshops and other activities.
Qualifications
Requirements for employment are:
  • A doctoral degree (or a foreign qualification deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree), preferably obtained no more than seven years before the deadline for applications.
  • Ability to read texts in the language(s) necessary to carry out the proposed sub-project.
  • Independence, collaborative skills and scholarly curiosity.
  • Very good knowledge of spoken and written English.

Additional qualifications for the position are:
  • Good knowledge of the history of knowledge and/or university history.
  • Good knowledge of contemporary European history, the history of European integration and/or the history of the so-called knowledge society.
  • Good knowledge of the historical and national contexts necessary to carry out the proposed sub-project.
  • Experience of having developed research environments and/or research collaborations, for example by co-authoring scholarly texts, organising workshops or editing publications.

The positions are fixed term positions for 24 months at 75 per cent of full time each, and starting on 1 September 2024.

  5. A complete list of publications where the 5 most important scholarly publications (including the doctoral thesis) are marked with asterisks.

About The Joint Faculties of the Humanities and Theology
The Joint Faculties of the Humanities and Theology have eight departments and carries out large and varied work within research and education with the purpose to understand people as cultural and social beings. The faculties have around 700 employees and around 4000 students.
About The Department of History
The Department of History is one of the eight departments within the Joint Faculties of the Humanities and Theology. It is a large department consisting of three divisions: the Division of history, the Division of human rights and the Centre for East and South-East Asian Studies. Around 70 teachers and researchers work at the department. They undertake teaching within the BA programmes in history and human rights, the masters programme in history and the international masters programmes in human rights and Asian studies. The department also has a large post-graduate programme with Ph.D. students in history and human rights, as well as a research school in history.
