Project proposal: AI-Powered Wound Depth Estimation
Wound assessment is like deciphering a complex puzzle. It involves evaluating not just the wound's size, but also its depth, tissue composition, and the condition of the surrounding skin. In the world of healthcare, this assessment plays a pivotal role, impacting patient outcomes and resource allocation. Accurate and efficient wound analysis is essential for healthcare practitioners to make informed decisions.
A crucial aspect of wound healing assessment is accurate wound depth assessment, which allows clinicians to evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment and adjust the therapeutic strategies accordingly. Traditional manual approaches to wound depth measurement suffer from several limitations, including subjectivity and susceptibility to inter-observer variability. Additionally, they are labor-intensive, time-consuming, and non-scalable, making them unsuitable for large-scale and long-term studies.
Automated wound care assessment tools have the potential of improving patient care, while reducing healthcare costs at the same time. By harnessing AI methods to obtain precise depth maps, doctors can swiftly diagnose wound healing, sparing patients from invasive examinations. This project aims to leverage computer vision and deep learning techniques to automate wound depth estimation and 3D reconstruction using wound images. By addressing the limitations of traditional methods, we can enhance wound assessment, treatment efficacy, and scientific research.
